Spooky DIY Lantern Hack for Fall Nights

Spooky DIY Lantern Hack for Fall Nights

Ready to make your porch the spookiest (and coziest) on the block? 🎃✨ Fall is here, pumpkins are out, and Halloween magic is in the air! If you’re craving budget-friendly ideas that look straight out of a magazine, this DIY lantern hack is about to become your new obsession.

This DIY lantern project is wonderfully affordable, beautifully atmospheric, and so refreshingly simple you’ll feel like a decorating genius. It’s the perfect fall porch idea for anyone craving easy Halloween decor that still feels elevated.

Ready to create that perfect spooky-elegant glow that’ll have the whole neighborhood asking for your secret? Let’s make some magic happen!

What you’ll need:

  • A semi-transparent cutting board (dollar store score!)
  • Halloween silhouettes (ghosts, bats, black cats, witches… you name it)
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Sharpie or black paint + paintbrush
  • A lantern! We used the large solar outdoor lanterns.

How to create the magic:

  1. Print your favorite spooky silhouettes (Canva is perfect for this).
  2. Trace your lantern’s shape onto the cutting board and cut it out.
  3. Tape your design in place so nothing shifts.
  4. Trace or paint your silhouette. Sharpie = quick, paint = bold and crisp. Make three panels and leave one open in the back.
  5. Pop the panels into your lantern and let the spooky glow shine!

Why we’re obsessed

These lanterns are solar powered so they soak up sunshine all day and cast the perfect eerie Halloween glow at night. No cords, no hassle. Plus, you can swap designs every season — bats in October, snowflakes in December, florals in spring. A total budget-friendly win!
