At Decor Steals, we believe that home isn’t just a place…it’s a feeling. It’s the scent of pine in the winter, the first bloom of jasmine in the spring, and those small, intentional moments shared around the kitchen table.
However, as every busy decorator and parent knows, the transition between holidays can be overwhelming. Just as we’ve finally tucked away the tinsel, Valentine’s Day arrives with a high bar for "magic." This past Christmas, my kids became absolutely obsessed with those adorable snowman hot cocoa toppers. They were the highlight of every snowy afternoon, but once the holidays ended, I faced a dilemma: how do I keep that sweet tradition alive for Valentine’s Day without spending a fortune or hours in the kitchen?
The answer was simple, affordable, and memorable. Today, I’m sharing how to create DIY Frozen Whipped Cream Heart Toppers. They are the perfect way to add a touch of love to your winter mornings or evenings!

Supplies You’ll Need
One of my favorite things about this project is that it uses items you likely already have in your pantry or can "steal" for just a few dollars:
- Silicone Heart Tray: A versatile staple for your kitchen.
- Whipped Topping (like Cool Whip): Pro-tip: I prefer Cool Whip over whip cream for this recipe because it doesn’t deflate right away when it hits the tray or warm hot cocoa.
- Festive Sprinkles: Pink, red, and white work best for that Valentine's touch.
- Spatula: For smoothing and scraping.
- Mugs: My favorite for Valentine’s Day is this I Love You stoneware coffee mug! You can gift it for Valentine’s Day, but also leave it out all year!
- Tray (for serving): I love these elegant scalloped edge ones!
Step-by-Step Directions
1. Fill the Molds
Using a spatula, spoon your whipped topping into the heart-shaped silicone molds. Be sure to press down gently to fill each section completely and remove any air bubbles. Once filled, use the edge of your spatula to scrape any excess off the top, ensuring the tops of your hearts are flat and clean.

2. Add Some Sparkle
While the whipped cream is still soft, add your festive sprinkles on top. Since we are all about Valentine’s Day decor, don't be afraid to go bold with little edible pearls or heart-shaped glitter. No need to push the sprinkles down, once frozen, you can do this if needed.

3. The Big Chill
Place your tray in the freezer for at least 3-4 hours (overnight is even better). Because we used whipped topping, they will stay firm and hold their shape beautifully.

4. Serve and Enjoy
Gently pop the hearts out of the silicone mold. I found that if I set the mold out for a bit to warm up, it was easier to pop the hearts out. Place one (or three!) on top of your favorite hot cocoa, coffee, or any warm drink and serve them on a tray. Watch as they slowly melt into a creamy, frothy layer of love!
