DIY Decoupage Reindeer: Easy Holiday Craft for Personalized Décor

Sometimes we want our holiday décor to feel a little more personal…something that truly reflects our own style and creativity. That’s where DIY projects come in! This decoupage reindeer craft is an easy, affordable way to customize your holiday décor. Whether you love traditional patterns, vintage prints, or something whimsical and bright, decoupage lets you turn a simple decorative reindeer into a one-of-a-kind statement piece.

What You’ll Find in This Blog Post

  • A quick list of everything you’ll need to get started
  • Step-by-step directions for decoupaging your reindeer
  • Tips for achieving a smooth, professional-looking finish
  • Optional ideas to make your reindeer even more festive

Decoupage Reindeer

Supplies

  • Decorative reindeer (Kristi used these!)
  • Decorative paper or napkins (holiday prints, florals, or thin book pages work great!)
  • Mod Podge or glue
  • Foam brush or paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Craft knife (optional, for detailed trimming)
  • Clear acrylic sealer (optional, for extra shine and durability)

Directions

1. Prepare your reindeer: Wipe down the surface to remove dust or residue. If your reindeer has a glossy finish, lightly sand it to help the glue adhere.

2. Cut your paper: Trim your chosen paper or napkins into small pieces or shapes that will fit smoothly over your reindeer’s curves and edges. Kristi chose to cut out the individual designs on her napkins to make it easier to get in the creases of the deer.

3. Apply Mod Podge: Brush a thin layer onto a small section of your reindeer.

4. Add your paper: Carefully place a piece of paper onto the glued area, smoothing out wrinkles or bubbles with your fingers or a soft brush.

5. Optional finish: After it dries completely, spray with a clear acrylic sealer for a glossy or matte finish—your choice!

Tips + Ideas

  • Work in small sections so the glue doesn’t dry before you place your paper.
  • Use thinner paper or napkins for smoother edges and fewer wrinkles.
  • Mix and match prints for a layered, eclectic look.
  • Add embellishments like ribbon, faux greenery, paint, or glitter for extra holiday sparkle. Kristi chose to add a gold accent to the reindeer antlers and wreath around its neck.

Creating a decoupage reindeer is such a fun way to make your holiday décor feel uniquely yours. Whether it ends up on your mantel, dining table, or entryway, it’s sure to be a conversation starter!
