I’m always looking for fun, creative ways to display food on my trays and risers during holiday gatherings (and bonus points if it adds a little extra festive charm). This DIY charcuterie tree is the perfect solution! Easy to make, beautiful to display, and a guaranteed showstopper, it’s a holiday appetizer your guests will rave about.
Why a Charcuterie Tree is the Perfect Holiday Food Display
Charcuterie boards are always a hit, but a holiday charcuterie tree on a decorative tray takes your appetizer game to the next level. It adds height, color, and festive charm to your table, while turning simple snacks into an elegant centerpiece. Plus, it’s versatile…perfect for holiday parties, family gatherings, or New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Supplies You’ll Need for Your Charcuterie Tree
- Cling Wrap
- Styrofoam cone
- Toothpicks
- Charcuterie fixings: grapes, olives, cheeses, meats (pepperoni, salami, etc.)
- Rosemary sprigs (for a festive touch)
- Small cookie cutter (to make a star topper)
Step-by-Step Directions for a DIY Charcuterie Tree

1. Prep Your Cone Base
Wrap a styrofoam cone in Cling Wrap for a clean, food-safe base. Insert toothpicks all around the cone. These will hold your charcuterie items securely.

2. Layer Your Cheese, Grapes, and Olives
Start with the larger, less pliable items to create the foundation. Arrange cheese cubes, grapes, and olives around the cone using toothpicks. Instead of a cheese block, I used sticks of string cheese and cut them into ½-1” chunks.
3. Add Meats and Rosemary Sprigs
Next, add pepperoni, salami, or other meats, filling in gaps. Tuck rosemary sprigs throughout the tree for natural greenery and a festive holiday aroma.

4. Make a Star Topper
Use a small cookie cutter to cut a star from a slice of cheese (I used 3 slices that were stuck together), then place it at the top of your charcuterie tree. Instant holiday cheer!
5. Serve Your Charcuterie Tree
Place your tree on a favorite tray or riser, surround it with crackers or bread, and let guests enjoy. It’s as fun to look at as it is to eat!

Tips for Creating the Perfect Holiday Charcuterie Tree
- Mix textures: soft cheeses, firm cheeses, cured meats, and fruits for a balanced look.
- Stick to a cohesive color palette for the prettiest presentation.
- Add small bowls of dips, spreads, or nuts for extra flavor and variety.
- Try using different shaped cookie cutters for stars, trees, or snowflakes to match your theme.
